"And the river was there- fascinating- deadly- like a snake." (74) When Conrad compares the river to a snake, not only does he mean it has lots of twists and turns, but it is dangerous. The current of the Congo River makes it extremely difficult to move upstream. Although it takes time, it is possible as is anything else one puts his mind to. In this aspect, the river represents the difficulties of the journey of life.
